Purpose of the Lawrence History Wiki

The Township Historian and a member of the Lawrence Historical Task Force have created this Wiki to allow residents of Lawrence and others with knowledge of Township history to compile information in a publicly-available format. Please feel free to contribute your knowledge of Lawrence History to this effort. Instructions for how to add material and edit or augment existing material are available under the "Help" menu to the left. The Lawrence History Wiki operates exactly as does the Wikipedia.

NEW: Lawrence Township Environmental Resource Inventory

The Township's Environmental Resources Committee, working with the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission, is in the final stages of creating an Environmental Resource Inventory for Lawrence. Still in draft form, the ERI contains a brief history of Lawrence Township and an updated list of historic properties compiled by the Historic Preservation Advisory Committee.

Lawrence Township Tercentenary History

This Pictorial History of Lawrence Township 1697-1997 was published by the Township to commemorate its 300th anniversary in 1997. This book is being scanned and added to the Wiki in sections. The first section covers the history of Lawrence's three fire companies.

A Guide to Lawrenceville's Historic Landmarks

This classic guidebook, sometimes known as "The Green Book," was published by the Township in 1992. The original text is reprinted here (without photos), with hopes that contributors will add photos of the historic houses in Lawrence. Some details of certain houses have also changed since 1992, and updates would be appreciated from those with knowledge.

Historical Artifacts Catalog

The Township Historian has asked a member of the Lawrence Historical Task Force to assist in the conversion of a Lawrence Township Historical Artifacts Catalog from the Lawrence Room at the Lawrence Branch of the Mercer County Public Library in order to improve its accessibility and general utility. The process is in a very early stage, and has resulted in a web-based tool for retrieving information from the catalog.
